John Clark

Obituary of John D Clark

John (Jack) D. Clark, Jr. of Chandler, AZ, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2023.   He was 90 years young.  He fought an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease prior to his death and lived a long and productive life.   He is survived by sons Adam Andrew Clark of Chandler, AZ, and John Jeffrey Clark of San Diego, CA.  Other survivors include brother Bill Clark, daughters-in-law Renee Clark and Anne Marino,

Jack was born on October 6, 1932, in Columbus, OH.   He graduated from Herndon High School in northern VA.   He served in the US Navy as a weatherman during the Korean War.   He went on to get a bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Georgetown University and a law degree (JD) from the University of Virginia.

While working in Washington, D.C., after his graduation from law school, he met the love of his life, Dolly, on a city bus.    In 1959, they were married.  They lived 58 wonderful years together and raised two sons.  Dolly preceded him in death in 2018.

Jack worked most of his professional life as a government contracts lawyer for corporations including Motorola, Xerox and Gilbert.   He later started his own law practice in Tempe specializing in wills and trusts.  Dolly worked by his side as the office manager.   He also served as the legal counsel for Phoenix Analysis & Design Technologies (PADT) for over 20 years starting in 1996.

Jack and Dolly were excellent parents, consistently making the decisions and sacrifices necessary to ensure their children had a loving, supportive home and a solid foundation for life.   Jack worked hard to provide for the family so Dolly could be a stay-at-home mom and care for their children.   He made time to be a Webelos and Boy Scout leader while his sons were in scouting. Jack and Dolly both loved to learn and practice foreign languages including Spanish, Dutch, German, Italian, and Japanese.   They particularly enjoyed traveling to Spain.   They were both Master Gardeners.

He enjoyed lasting relationships with many friends, colleagues and neighbors over the years and was quick with a joke.   He was also skilled speaker and participated in Toastmasters and the Rotary Club.  He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
