Theresa Brandt

Obituary of Theresa Brandt

On Saturday, April 8, 2023, Marie Therese “Theresa” (Hayweiser) Brandt passed away peacefully in Gilbert, Arizona, after having lived her life fully and exuberantly for 87 years.

Born in the Soho section of Pittsburgh PA on January 26, 1936, she was the oldest daughter of the late Elmer and Julia (Casey) Hayweiser. A 1953 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School in McKees Rocks, she married her loving husband of 66 years, Howard W. Brandt Jr. on February 23, 1957.  After a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, she retired in 2005. Theresa lived most of her life in Pittsburgh, and although she moved to Gilbert AZ with her husband in 2016, she remained a Pittsburgh girl at heart.

Whether you knew her as Theresa, Tessie, Aunt Tess or ‘Bubba’, she will forever be remembered for sharing her loving and selfless nature by anybody she met.  Both friends and strangers were greeted with a kind word and a gentle smile.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by their six children; John (Birgit) Brandt of Pittsburgh PA, Joseph (Becky) Brandt of Pittsburgh PA, Junemarie Brandt of Colora MD, Janice (Keith) Edwards of Gilbert AZ, James (Kari) Brandt of Gilbert AZ, and Jennifer (John) Civettini of Gilbert AZ; her sister Rose (Ray) Collins of Finleyville PA; ten grandchildren – Sophia, Jonah, Annie, April, Tedd, Bethany, William, Aubrey, Sterling, and Giancarlo; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Agnes Schmalz.

There will be no visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date  at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 440 E Elliot Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85234.  Final arrangements are being handled by Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ 85233.  There will also be a Celebration of her Life in Pittsburgh PA, which will be announced at a later date.
