Obituary of Fern Delores Woods

Fern Delores Woods passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Fern was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister, nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. She was endearingly known by others as "Grandma Fern" through her decades of volunteer work at SGCS/BCA/Gilbert Christian Schools. Her time volunteering brought her great personal joy and she touched the lives of so many families there as being the original Grandma of Grandma"s Cookies Awards program. Fern was born on November 29 th , 1932 in Oklahoma to Cecil Mae and Clarence Hill, joining older siblings, Wade and Virginia. She grew up on a farm during the depression and developed a strong work ethic, which served her well all her life. She graduated from Council Valley High School and shortly thereafter married her sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Woods. She and Bob moved to Kansas and raised their 2 daughters in Newton, Kansas. Fern and Bob moved to Arizona in the late 90"s and enjoyed many years playing with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fern was very active in church work at the local Baptist church, teaching Bible studies and mentoring young women. She enjoyed her bridge clubs and played tennis into her 70"s. Gardening was a favorite passion of hers and she was known for the colorful displays of flowers in her yard. Fern was a great conversationalist and she could get the life story out of a stranger in 10 minutes or less! She loved watching all sports on TV and would annually fill out the March Madness brackets, never missing a game. Fern is survived by her sister Virginia of Houston, TX; 2 daughters, Jayne Klemme and Beth Woods of Arizona; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
