It is only now, a week away from her Celebration of Life, that I am able to coherently express the extreme grief and heartbreak I feel over the loss of Laura. My emotions have ran the spectrum: guilt, anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, self pity, and much more. No posting can come close to adequately reflecting my love for this woman who made such an enormous impact on my life and others. She was truly a triple threat of goodness: intelligence, beauty, and spirit.
I am writing this from the desk where I received the terrible news of Laura's passing. It still seems so unreal. I miss talking to her. I miss her smile. I miss her touch. I miss her laugh. I miss the way she would say my name at the beginning of a sentence when she wanted my attention. I miss leaving her messages before she woke up and receiving her messages when I woke up. I miss making our plans to see one another. I miss sharing scripture readings and listening to her daily devotions. I miss her sending me love songs. I miss sending her flowers. I miss the dreams of travel and adventure we would talk about. I miss learning about each others hobbies and interests. I miss talking about the trials and tribulations of our day. I miss talking with Laura a dozen times each day we were apart. I miss sharing our feelings and thoughts, dreams and fears, laughs and tears.
Part of Laura's beauty and charm was her daily routine with her hair and how she would wear it for the day. When I would complain of her loose hair on the floor, Laura would jokingly say those were "love notes" to remind me of her when she was away. Those hairs used to bother me, but not any more.
In an example of how a common act can become a memorable event, this past spring Laura and I replaced a faucet which I was sure was going to leak. I've replaced dozens of faucets and always had at least a small leak each time. I was incredulous that there were no leaks this time. With a hug, Laura said, "we make a good team!" She was so right. With Laura in my life I was a better man. Being apart was a struggle for us both.
We would often talk about our first date and first kiss. What a magical 6+ hour evening that was! We walked and talked all over downtown Indianapolis getting to know one another. We must have logged over 5 miles and all the while Laura in heels. I wish I could go back to that July evening of 2018. Despite our living so far apart, we were able to spend, when combined, well over two full months together this year. Laura said to me last month, "...our third year is going to be the best one yet!" I am so grateful for our time together.
I pray for all the people who Laura touched by her life and example. I especially pray for her family whom she loved dearly. I pray for her friends and her enemies (because she would want me to). I HOPE and I PRAY that I see her again someday as I continue to develop in faith and understanding in my human frailties.

Such a wonderful soul. I am very sad that she is on to heaven, but glad she's in a better place. I loved a lot about Laura....My deepest sympathies to her loved ones. I will miss her here. We will always treasure our memories of her! My prayers for all family and friends.

I have so many memories of my dear friend Laura--road trips, canoeing Black Canyon, camping, hiking, SUPing, God talk, girl talk-- and the best were our conversations. You get to know a person really well when words start flowing from the mouth. "For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." (Luke 6:45) and Laura's heart was full of love for God, her family and her friends. She loved BIG--abundantly! We spent hours talking about God's word and application in today's crazy world. She spoke lovingly and passionately about her nieces and nephews--absolutely adored them, showing off pictures and videos, and always sporting her "Aunties--Like a mom only cooler" hat.
Her friendship was dear to me. She was 100! She followed through with action--the epitome of "Love Does."
Girl, I miss you. I eternally love you. I hope there is some version of Harleys in Heaven because we still get to ride together through the heavenly mountains. God only knows...

The day God cried
It was at a Christmas party in 2016 I met my friend. Hoping to have a good time and escape from the stress of life and my loneliness, I was introduced to Laura who was the host of this party. I remember we shared some personal trauma and also hope for the future in our short discussion that night. Over the years, Laura and I went on hikes and had many conversations over coffee and her favorite food from her hometown. Love and laughter poured from her. She had such determination, a spirit of adventure, and deep love for her family and friends.
And today I miss my friend. My heart aches as I miss her. As God watches his children suffer, does he cry? Where are you God? Did you catch her? Why could you not save her from the sickness, the torment, and her hurts? I want to believe you have a heart and cried when you saw her in her pain. Receive her beautiful spirit as we cry.
Psalm 33:18-20,22 "Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. Laura was such a vibrant outdoor enthusiast and my adventure buddy! We did all kinds of life fulfilling activities like hang gliding, bungee jumping, hikes and SUP'ing. I'm going to miss our annual drive through the Winter Wonderland Christmas lights and our shopping afterwards at Burlington Coat Factory (where we always found a deal!). I was with you on your first backpacking trip ever and what a great trip that was! I'm going to miss you dearly my friend. Thank you for teaching me about God Notes.

Laura was such a dear friend, caring and fun. My St Louis friend, which if you have ever lived elsewhere you realize that there is no place like St Louis or like people from St Louis. We shared our love of St Louis, sports, Pizza, but also had similar careers. She was an OT and I was a PT. We always had something to talk about or laugh about. She always spoke of her beloved nieces and nephews. My family enjoyed getting to know her since she moved out to Arizona. She will always be in my heart. My condolences.

I did not have the honor of knowing her well, but have known Laura since High School. Back then, she was one of those girls that just seemed so intelligent, kind, beautiful, funny, loved and loving to be real. She was though. I saw her light then and I see it now. She has impacted and inspired many. I'm so very sorry.
