Obituary

Obituary of F. Eileen Badger
Frances Eileen Owen Badger went home to be with the Lord July 4 th , 2020.
Eileen was born January 25 th , 1923 at home in Vigo County, Indiana, the oldest child of Willard and
Amanda Pearl Owen (Shattuck). During the next 14 years three more siblings were added to their family:
Charles Edwin (Emma) Owen, June Pearl (James) Jester, and Betty Clare (Don) Schick.
When Eileen was 12 years old, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. From then on, she
always participated in church activities and served her Lord in church ministries.
She attended Pimento School, 1 st through 12 th grades, riding to school in a horse drawn hack during the
earliest years. As a Senior, Eileen took the first offered typing and bookkeeping classes which prepared
her for several jobs throughout her life.
Eileen met Mervin Eugene Badger when they were asked to be wedding attendants for her workplace
friend and one of Mervin"s friends. Mervin and Eileen were married on March 23, 1946 at her Pastor"s
house. Soon they moved to Washington, D. C. for six months and then returned to Indiana. Eileen held a
couple of clerk/secretarial jobs for the next seven years. They enjoyed going to amusement parks, fairs.
all night Southern Gospel singing conventions, and once in a while a movie. Serving in their local church
was a large part of their lives.
In January of 1952 their first child, Jeffrey Lynn, was born. From then on Eileen stayed home to raise
their children. Just 20 months later Anetta Lea arrived.
Mervin and Eileen moved to Phoenix, Arizona with their close friends Ross and Dora May Hunt in June of
1957. Then in 1960 Eileen gave birth to their youngest child, Stephen Eugene, at which time the family
moved to Mesa, Arizona. After her children were all in school, Eileen worked night-shift for a short while
at Motorola and then worked as church secretary at Mesa Baptist Church where she and Mervin were
charter members and remained members until their deaths.
Eileen liked to sing (with her family, friends and at church), take 1-2 day road trips around Arizona and
longer trips to visit family, do decorative painting, bake, sew, play croquet and table games, visit with
friends, have picnics out in the desert, put puzzles together, and look at everyone"s Facebook posts
(although she never posted anything of her own). In her later years, she enjoyed word search and
crossword puzzles, games on her iPad, and watching the "old" T. V. shows and game shows. More than
anything Eileen took pleasure from reading her Bible.
Eileen is survived by her three children: Jeffery (Renee) Badger of Placerville, CA; Anetta (Joel) Maxcy of
Kit Carson, CO; and Stephen (Darlene) Badger of Mesa, AZ. Also surviving Eileen are eight grandchildren:
Danielle and Austin Badger; Nathan, Samuel (Kerri), Matthew (Christine) and Andrew Maxcy; Jacob and
Clinton (Britni) Badger; 10 great grandchildren and her brother-in-law, Don Schick.
Now her family has the assurance that Eileen is at home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whose
indwelling presence and written Word, the Bible, gave her encouragement, strength, comfort, peace,
and hope throughout her earthly life.
