Tear Bottles

"Tears are words the heart can't express."

Collecting your tears in a small bottle and burying them with the dead is a tradition that dates back to the Roman era, although there is reference to it cited in the Bible. The custom reappeared in the Victorian era during the 19th century when elaborate bottles decorated with silver and pewter emerged.

Collecting a mourner's tears in a bottle, also called a lachrymatory, is used to show remorse, guilt, love and grief. Considered to be a sentimental gift to the dead, these bottles can be lavishly decorated and measure up to four inches in height. They can have decorative caps and stoppers and are sealed specially to allow the tears to evaporate. When the tears would evaporate, the mourning period was supposed to have ended.

This may be a product that you would buy for yourself, but giving it as a gift to someone filled with your tears seems more appropriate than buying them an empty one. Tear bottles are also used in modern times as a sentimental gift given to people you love.
